Who We Are
Hagbes PLC was founded in 1957 as an importing & trading company for small agricultural machinery and building materials, becoming the pioneer to introduce stone grinding mills in Ethiopia. By 1974 the company was the proud owner of feed mills, pasta factories, as well as a flour milling complex, making it the largest establishments of its kind in Eastern Africa at the time.
The year 1991 brought a more liberalised economic foundation, and Hagbes started expansion once again. Today the company employs a workforce of roughly 640 people, spread across a dozen locations around Ethiopia. During this time, the company has created over 25 different business segments, all leaders in their field. Fuelled by this desire for success, Hagbes today is regarded as one of the largest private organisations in the country.
Hagbes is proudly privately owned, and a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction is part of the ideology here. We believe that in our line of business, our customers are the most valuable assets we have.
Our Story
Founding of Hagbes
Hagbes Private Limited Company was founded in 1957 as a small agricultural equipment and building material importer. Becoming the pioneer in the country to introduce stone grinding mills. The company opened its first office in Atikilt Tera area, which is still proudly operational today.
Founding of our Food Industry
Hagbes Founded the largest flour processing complex in the Eastern Africa region in 1970.
Opening of our Piazza Branch
Hagbes opened its first Branch Office in Piazza in 1986, at the time when the area was the economic centre of Addis Ababa.
Opening of our Yamaha Service Centre
Hagbes became the Yamaha Distributor for Ethiopia in 1978. Once sales volumes started growing, in 1987 the Yamaha Service Centre was established on an area covering over 3600m2.
Opening of our first Vehicle Service Centre
After entering the Automotive market in the mid 90s, we opened our first Vehicle Service Centre in 1996 again in the Piazza area of Addis Ababa covering an area of 3300 m2. This is where we presently service commercial trucks of up to 5 tons, and passenger vehicles.
Unveiling of our new Headquarters Building in Bole
In 2003, we proudly unveiled and moved into our new Building Complex in the heart of Addis’ Commercial Centre, Bole. This is where Hagbes’ current Headquarters is located.
Opening of our Heavy Machinery Service Centre
Hagbes was making its way into the machinery sector by the early 2000s. By 2004, the company had opened its Heavy Machinery Service Centre, located in the southern part of Addis Ababa in Kality. The area covers an area of over 7000 m2. This is where all Heavy Machinery equipment, Trucks and Agricultural Equipment are serviced.
Opening Of Our Surveying Equipment Service Centre
By 2005, Hagbes had opened yet another service centre in Bole area. This time a state-of-the-art surveying equipment recalibration & service centre. The first of its kind in Ethiopia. This is where Total Stations, Levels and GPS units are serviced.
